The Basics of Casino Protocol

If you have never played on a live casino game before then you should know that there are certain items on protocol that require adherence. Everyone benefits if certain items of casino protocol are observed.

New players are always welcome on any of the games in a casino. For instance, players at a blackjack table will play on different skill levels and experience. It is expected, however, that players should know the rules of a game before they even join in. It is an annoyance to have someone pester the dealer (and everybody else) with questions and holding up the game.

Take note that you should only cash in or buy in chips in between playing hands. If there is an active hand playing then you should wait for it to be finished before you buy in. Patiently wait for the said hand to conclude and use the time you've got to get your cash ready.

The chips used for casino games come in different colors. When you buy in, dealers will ask what denomination you would like to exchange your money for. For example, if you change $100 into $5 chips you should expect 20 red colored chips. If ever you've reached a point where you already have a huge stack of chips of a certain color then you should use those chips to be instead. Dealers will usually just pay you in the largest possible chip denomination, which is part of casino protocol.

When cashing out, dealers will ask you to trade smaller denomination chips for larger ones (i.e. color out). You may do this when you leave the game or in between hands if you play at the casino table games. If you prefer to color out in between hands you should organize your chips beforehand so you don't waste time.

During the game, part of the protocol is that players are not allowed to touch the chips they have laid down as wagers once a round of the game has started. For example, you may not touch the chips you wagered once cards have been dealt for a particular hand.

One particular bit of casino protocol is about how the cards are dealt in table games. Let's take the case of blackjack as an example. If the cards are dealt face up in a particular blackjack table part of the protocol is that players are not allowed to touch the cards. However, if the cards on blackjack table are dealt face down, it means that players hold their cards.

Tipping is indeed part of the protocol in a casino but is often left out for the discretion of the players. Two things you might want to consider are the friendliness of the casino employees (especially the dealer) and how much you've won or lost (obviously you can't tip if you have nothing left). These are items of casino protocol you should know.
